Professional administrative support for California residential care operators who need help preparing and completing an organizational National Provider Identifier application through NPPES.
As your residential care business grows, insurers, government-funded programs, claims administrators, provider networks and other organizations may request a National Provider Identifier, commonly known as an NPI.
RCCS provides comprehensive administrative assistance for eligible 6-bed RCFE, 4-bed ARF, assisted living and residential care providers that want support preparing an organizational NPI application through the National Plan & Provider Enumeration System.
Our service is designed for facility owners who want the application reviewed carefully and who want professional assistance organizing the legal business information, facility information, provider taxonomy, licensing information and authorized-official details used in the registration process.
RCCS helps organize your information before submission, reviews the application for consistency, assists with taxonomy research, supports the submission process and helps you understand what comes next after your NPI is issued.
This service is intended to guide the client through the initial NPI registration process rather than simply completing one form and ending the engagement at submission.
NPI Registration Assistance
The federal NPI application itself does not carry an application fee. The $249 charge is RCCS's fee for professional administrative support.
A National Provider Identifier is a unique 10-digit identifier assigned to eligible health care providers and health care organizations through NPPES.
For many facility organizations, the applicable registration is an Entity Type 2 organizational NPI rather than an individual Type 1 NPI. RCCS will review the information supplied by the client before preparing the application.
An NPI identifies a provider. It does not by itself enroll a facility with an insurance company, Medi-Cal, Medicare, ALW, CalAIM, a Regional Center or another payer or program.
Review of your organization, facility type, proposed use of the NPI and information needed to begin an organizational application.
Assistance checking whether your organization may already have an NPI so that an unnecessary duplicate registration can be avoided.
Review of whether the information supplied appears consistent with an organizational Entity Type 2 application or another applicable provider type.
Guidance regarding the applicable NPPES and federal identity-access steps that must be completed by the owner or authorized representative.
Review of legal business name, DBA or facility name, tax information, organizational structure, mailing information and other provider-identification data.
Review of the physical location, mailing address, facility type, licensing information, ownership information and business contact details provided by the client.
Assistance organizing the information needed to identify the person with authority to act for the organization and complete required certifications or attestations.
Assistance researching a provider taxonomy that appears appropriate based on the facility's actual services and the information supplied by the client.
Preparation and review of the organizational NPI application information before final submission through the applicable NPPES process.
Administrative support during submission while the client completes any personal identity verification, authorization or multifactor-authentication steps required by the federal system.
Assistance monitoring the application and reviewing requests for clarification or additional information relating to the original submission.
Support with reasonable corrections connected to the initial application if information must be clarified or updated before enumeration.
Review of the resulting provider record for general consistency with the information supplied and delivery of the NPI confirmation information for the client's records.
A brief consultation explaining how to maintain the NPI information and discussing potential next steps for payer or provider-readiness needs.
The NPI application requires a provider taxonomy classification. The taxonomy should accurately describe the provider's actual services and organizational role.
For certain assisted-living organizations, a potentially applicable classification is 310400000X — Assisted Living Facility. However, taxonomy selection should not be treated as one-size-fits-all, particularly for ARF providers or specialized residential programs.
RCCS will assist with researching the classification that appears most appropriate based on the information provided by the client. Final responsibility for accurate information and required attestations remains with the provider organization and its authorized representative.
Purchasing this service does not guarantee that a specific taxonomy code is appropriate for every 6-bed RCFE, 4-bed ARF or other residential provider. RCCS will review the client's actual facility information before preparing the application.
Clients are responsible for providing complete, accurate and current information.
Purchase the RCCS NPI Registration Assistance package and complete the client intake process.
RCCS provides a checklist requesting the business, facility and authorized-representative information needed to begin the registration process.
We review your facility type, legal business information, existing NPI status and the organizational information relevant to the application.
RCCS assists with taxonomy research and organizes the information needed for the organizational NPI application.
The owner or authorized representative completes any identity-verification, multifactor-authentication, authorization or attestation steps that must be personally completed.
The completed application information is submitted through the applicable NPPES process.
RCCS assists with monitoring the application and addressing requests for clarification relating to the initial submission.
Once the NPI is assigned, RCCS helps review the resulting record and provides the confirmation information for your records.
If your objective involves LTC insurance, ALW, CalAIM or another payer or program, additional RCCS services can be discussed separately.
Residential Care Facility for the Elderly operators may encounter requests for an organizational NPI as they expand into payer relationships, claims administration or applicable provider-enrollment programs.
Adult Residential Facility operators pursuing applicable government-funded or payer relationships may likewise need an organizational NPI as one part of a broader enrollment or provider-identification process.
Facilities that have historically operated on a private-pay basis may later need a provider identifier as their reimbursement relationships and administrative requirements expand.
An NPI can be an important piece of a facility's provider documentation, but receiving an NPI does not automatically make an RCFE or ARF an approved long-term care insurance provider.
Each insurer and individual insurance policy may establish separate requirements involving facility eligibility, provider documentation, licensing verification, claims, invoices, plan-of-care documentation, benefit eligibility and reimbursement.
NPI registration establishes the provider's federal identifier through NPPES. Insurance or program enrollment establishes a separate relationship between the provider and a specific insurer, payer, network or government program. One does not automatically create the other.
Additional RCCS services may be available separately where applicable.
Certain NPI provider information is made publicly available through federal NPI data and registry systems. Facility owners should carefully consider the business addresses, telephone numbers and other provider information they submit.
This can be particularly important for owner-occupied 6-bed RCFEs and other residential care homes operating from a private residence.
Clients should retain control of their own NPPES and federal identity-access accounts, passwords and multifactor-authentication methods. RCCS can provide administrative guidance and authorized assistance without requiring the client to surrender ownership of personal login credentials.
Not automatically. An NPI may be requested as part of provider identification or claims administration, but every insurer and policy may have separate facility, documentation and claims requirements.
No. NPI enumeration is controlled by the applicable federal system and authorities. RCCS provides professional preparation and administrative support.
The federal NPI application itself does not carry an NPI application fee. The $249 is RCCS's service fee for professional administrative assistance, preparation, review, submission support, monitoring and consultation.
Many incorporated or LLC-operated facilities seeking an organizational identifier may be working with an Entity Type 2 organizational NPI. RCCS reviews the client's facility and business information before preparing the application.
The provider taxonomy system includes classifications for assisted living facilities, including 310400000X — Assisted Living Facility. The correct taxonomy must match the provider's actual operations, so RCCS reviews the client's circumstances before preparing the application.
Potentially, depending on the provider organization and its circumstances. The appropriate provider type and taxonomy should be reviewed based on the actual facility and services.
No. An organizational NPI identifies the provider organization and is distinct from an individual's Type 1 NPI.
RCCS can assist through appropriate access and authorization procedures where permitted. Clients should retain ownership and control of their federal account, passwords and multifactor-authentication methods.
Keep the confirmation in your permanent facility records, provide it when appropriately requested, and keep the provider information current. If your goal is LTC insurance or another payer relationship, additional provider-readiness or claims services may be needed.
