SAMPLE PRACTICE QUESTION

There is an unwitnessed fall at 2 a.m. in an ambulatory resident’s private room. The resident cannot get up or move. What steps do you take?

Example of a strong answer structure

1. Safety Ensure the resident is in a safe area, free of additional hazards. Do not move the resident.
2. Call 911 Call 911, follow the operator’s instructions, and wait for emergency services.
3. Notify the Responsible Party Notify the resident’s responsible party according to the resident’s needs and facility procedures.
4. CDSS Reporting Determine whether the incident must be reported to CDSS and report it within the required timeline.
5. Prevention & Training Review the incident with staff and implement measures or training to reduce future fall risks.
